Janus Henderson Investors
Business Finance Trainee
Why do you enjoy your job?
I enjoy working in Business Finance as it’s a vital team within the company. One of the main objectives is to analyse and manage firm wide expenses, budgets and forecasts adding value through costs savings. We network and collaborate with all areas of the business, and I enjoy meeting different people to discuss work and also to learn more about what they do.
What is the most challenging thing about your job?
The most challenging aspect of the job at the beginning was completing Excel tasks due to the large amount of data I handle. Now though, following external training provided through the scheme as well as internal help from my team, I am a lot more confident using the software. The department’s work is presented and distributed to our internal clients and must always be of a high quality and accurate.
How did you get into your job?
I graduated from Nottingham Trent University with a degree in Economics which included a placement year working for a phone-trading company in a customer service and business administrative role. I had also enjoyed previous work experience in retail, administration, catering and hospitality which all help with CVs and interviews.
What are your future aspirations?
I would like to continue working in the asset management industry, either in finance or potentially explore a new business area to gain wider experience and knowledge which would benefit my career. I plan to complete the Investment Management Certificate (IMC) provided through the scheme awarded by CFA.
How would you sum up your Investment20/20 experience?
The Investment20/20 scheme has allowed me to gain a year’s corporate experience within a recently merged global asset management firm. It has given me exposure to an exciting, quite unique, working environment which changes continually. I have had a lot of opportunity to network with other trainees, employees from various business areas and senior management staff. This has made me more comfortable communicating with people at all levels.
I would highly recommend the Investment2020 scheme for any person who has an interest in the financial industry. There is a wide variety of business areas to choose from within the industry.
