BMO Global Asset Management

Product Control Analyst

School Leaver

Why do you enjoy your job?

My role is in the Product Management Team which oversees all of BMO’s fund ranges. This means that I have great exposure to different investment vehicles and have been able to interact with areas across the business. Staying within Product Management for the year has meant I am involved in long term projects and consistently given lots of responsibility. I feel a valued member of my team and have really settled in!

What is the most challenging thing about your job?

Prioritising tasks and balancing deadlines can be challenging, although I am driven by pushing myself every day and finding solutions to improve my efficiency. BMO has a friendly, welcoming culture where questions are encouraged, so if I need help there is guidance available.

How did you get into your job?

Whilst I was completing my final year of sixth form (studying Maths, Physics and Chemistry at A2), I felt significant pressure to go to university. Like many I was unsure on which degree would suit me best and really wanted to take to gain experience in STEM. I worked in a R&D lab in the Electronic Materials Team for a year and thoroughly enjoyed the analytical side of the role. I was interested in exploring this but in a different sector; finance had always intrigued me and that was when I discovered Investment20/20. Because of the roles it had with technical elements, it seemed the perfect opportunity!

What are your future aspirations?

I would love a permanent job in the industry and to gain professional qualifications such as the IMC and CFA! Saying that, coming from a science background this year has taught me to be open and flexible so I am excited for whatever the future brings. Even if you are considering university, Investment20/20 is a great way to help you figure out what path is for you and gives you invaluable work experience.

How would you sum up your Investment20/20 experience?

My experience with BMO and Investment20/20 has been fantastic! The scheme assisted me in getting a job within asset management with no previous experience and I have learnt so much. Their training and networking events are very beneficial and enable you to meet a large network of people in a similar position to you.
