I am currently working on the Cash team within Schroders, I complete daily reconciliation for Hong Kong, Singapore & Australia. I have been in my position for 6 months now and I am still just as motivated as I was the day I started! I have really been able to settle in by having a strong mind-set and a passion for learning. I am suited to my role as the subjects I studies at school (Maths, business studies & English literature) have helped me develop my analytical and mathematic skills working in finance. I enjoy that at times the job can be fast paced as it keeps me busy and it encourages efficiency. However, I get times of the month where my inbox is quieter and this allows me to take time to expand my knowledge through learning. I am currently an apprentice and studying towards the level 4 AAT qualification so by the end of my apprenticeship I should be qualified by the accounting standard.
I believe the most challenging part of my job is being able to prioritise tasks accordingly. Month end is an incredibly busy time of the month for me and I have many requests to complete from different entities so I have to ensure I am prioritising tasks so that the most important are getting completed whilst also not forgetting about those less important. As I work with the APAC countries, time difference is also key, I have to ensure I am communicating at times that are most efficient and beneficial to me and those on the other end.
I came into my role as a school leaver, after completing my A levels. I applied for many different companies whilst still in sixth form and completed multiple interview processes and I found myself getting offered a job at Schroders. I always knew that University wasn’t the option for myself as I wanted to be able to start earning full time when I finished school. An apprenticeship was the perfect route for myself as not only is it an opportunity to start working in a competitive city, but you gain great experience, contacts and qualifications alongside it.
I would highly recommend the Investment20/20 experience as not only for myself but others I know that are currently enrolled onto the programme it has been incredibly beneficial for their personal growth. They offer immense support whilst you are enrolled on your programme and I really enjoy the courses they offer because it allows me to gain a greater insight into how different businesses operate and how to develop personal skills. This widens my knowledge and provides insight into possible career paths for the future.
