Why do you enjoy your job?

I enjoy the responsibility and independence which I have in my role. It is really motivating being a part of a team who are working towards a bigger goal, especially when you can see how you are making an impact. It is a big change coming from a school environment where everything is structured for you, to having to decide how to make the most efficient use of your day; this is something I really enjoy!

It’s also amazing to be part of such an impressive company in the heart of the City, Schroders has such strong values and you can really sense that working here.

What is the most challenging thing about your job?

I would say the most challenging part of my job is keeping organised and on top of tasks, which involves good time management. (This and getting used to using Excel on a daily basis!)

How did you get into your job?

I was planning on going to university to study chemistry, but when I realised I just was not passionate enough about the subject or university in general, I chose to take a gap year. As tempting as lying on a beach for the year was, I wanted to look for a job which could give me an insight into a possible career for the future which is when I stumbled upon the opportunities promoted by Investment20/20.

What are your future aspirations?

Having spent the year at Schroders, I definitely now see the value of going to university and studying for a degree in order to benefit your future career. My current plan is to go on to study Economics and Management when the year finishes and hopefully return to the industry afterwards.

How would you sum up your Investment20/20 experience?

I’m so grateful to have been a part of the Investment20/20 programme. It’s been an eye-opening insight into an industry which hasn’t been overly accessible to young people before now. The training opportunities and insight days that have been put on by Investment20/20 have been enormously helpful in terms of building my knowledge base of the industry and learning about lots of different career pathways that are available to explore.
