Why do you enjoy your job?

I love the creativity of what I do. From sixth form I always thought I would end up in a career in finance or business (due to the fact I really enjoyed microeconomics), but I also loved writing, photography and music. Through marketing I have exposure to financial markets and investments but also am able to be involved with planning and running events, creating content and understanding how digital marketing works. I also enjoy seeing how branding and design works from a concept to a physical product. I like the idea that what we do and everything we create reaches people directly and I think that is something powerful.

What is the most challenging thing about your job?

Managing my workload. I help in all elements of marketing – so I can be working on many different types of projects at the same time. Learning how to prioritise work and being able to break down big tasks into smaller goals for yourself is definitely an important skill to have and is one which I have strengthened.

How did you get into your job?

During my second year of A levels – whilst doing some quite mind-numbing revision – I began to think about whether going to university was right for me. I decided to explore other options and apply for a yearlong placement to give me time to decide. I applied to the Schroders Trainee Scheme (not to a specific role), did a video interview and attended an assessment centre. Then they put me forward for an interview in a role which they thought I was best suited to…and here I am in Schroders Wealth Management Marketing.

What are your future aspirations?

I’m not sure. But I’ve learned that’s okay, a lot of people who are senior to me are still trying to figure out what they want to do. What I am certain of is that I am fascinated by the creation and distribution of content and the skills associated with that are important to many industries.

How would you sum up your Investment20/20 experience?

Invaluable. In terms of next steps after school, it was the best decision I could have made. I was unsure about university and I’ve probably gained more out of this year than I would have gained from 3 years doing a degree. I love what I do and it’s opened my eyes to how I can create a career out of doing what I enjoy.
