My role involves analysing risk and incident data and producing reports for various boards and committees to help them make informed decisions on how to manage the risks for the company. My role involves a lot of communication and working with others from a range of areas across the business, therefore my knowledge about investment services is constantly growing. My job involves a balance between work and studying for my apprenticeship exam, as well as completing evidence for my portfolio and taking part in various training sessions, both internally and externally. Working at M&G has opened up a wide range of opportunities and networking circles that I otherwise would not have been exposed to. I enjoy having to be consistently organised and planning ahead, especially in terms of meeting reporting deadlines. I have also taken on the role of social coordinator for my department, for which I have organised various events including breakfast, lunch, drinks and the crystal maze.
The most challenging thing about my role is having to condense such large amounts of data and present it in a way that it includes only the key information within my reports. It is very tempting to include a lot of detail, but the real skill is being selective and analysing the data to include only what would be most useful.
I was first introduced to M&G by a family friend who worked for the company. I was initially just supposed to do some work experience at M&G, but resultantly applied for my role and was offered a position on the apprenticeship scheme. I started working at M&G soon after finishing my A levels. M&G have been extremely supportive in this transition between work and school. Before beginning my apprenticeship I had previous part time jobs and work experience at various companies, although most were not related to financial services.
My future aspirations is to continue to grow and learn within the investment industry. M&G have offered all apprentices an amazing opportunity and I hope that I remain with them for a long time. I hope that I take in part in as many experiences as I can, and not be afraid to try new things, especially those that I don’t initially feel comfortable with.
