I enjoy working in Operations as it is varied, challenging and really interesting to see how the work we do affects the wider company. I am a psychology graduate – so spreadsheets and analysis are very familiar. Day to day, I am always drawing on my experience of this – it’s great to be able to see my degree coming into play in ways I would not have expected. Even though I’m not in the most conventional role for a psychology graduate, my role is varied so I am always coming across opportunities to draw on my skills and strengths.
The most challenging part about my job is learning the lingo – this industry thrives on abbreviations and jargon! But you get used to it, and with the opportunity to take The Investment Foundations Programme, I now feel confident and better equipped to do my job. It can be daunting coming into this industry without prior experience, but the firm and Investment20/20 give you a great start with training and insight days, so everything becomes clear quicker than you would expect.
I heard from a family friend about the trainee scheme at Janus Henderson, the culture of the company and the good things he had heard about the trainee programme. I applied online via the Janus Henderson website and went from there to a video interview and a face to face interview. I wanted to go into a career that would challenge me after leaving university and, not sure what I wanted to do, I felt that going into the investment industry would be the best place for this.
Investment20/20 has given me the best possible start into an industry where I had no experience, through the various training sessions, insight days and networking events. The team at Investment20/20 has great advice to give, and is a great place to build a strong foundation for a career in the investment industry.
