Why do you enjoy your job?

I am learning about an industry that is incredibly relevant and very interesting. My role includes working to analyse investment portfolios and the funds within them as well as moving cash between them. This is an exciting and challenging job but my team encourages me to ask any questions I have regarding my work and is willing to take time to train me correctly. I work with a huge range of departments which helps to give an insight into how all the areas of the company work together as well as broaden my knowledge. M&G has a great culture and encourages networking to make friends and later potentially move roles within the business. My team is really supportive of my apprenticeship which means I have been able to attend many Investment20/20 events and that has further developed my knowledge.

What is the most challenging thing about your job?

The most challenging aspect of the job is the many deadlines that must be met, and so being organised and time efficient is key. We are able to meet these deadlines as we work well with each other and are happy to take on each other’s work to ensure it all gets done. Also, there are often changes to processes and so being able to adapt and learn things quickly is important to avoid making mistakes. Again, my team is really helpful and answers any questions I may have.

How did you get into your job?

I came straight from school and whilst it was a huge change, the friendly culture at M&G really helped me to settle in. Doing the apprenticeship alongside my work has helped me to build up my knowledge of the industry and to grow more confident in the work I do.

What are your future aspirations?

My future aspirations are to continue to work and learn about the investment industry, using my knowledge and experience to work my way up and settle into a job I love.

How would you sum up your Investment20/20 experience?

The Investment20/20 events have been incredibly useful and an enjoyable way to learn about different aspects within the investment industry. They range from teaching presentation skills to talks from fund managers and CEOs which I have found extremely insightful and you’re unlikely to have this anywhere else. Investment20/20 is committed to helping us learn as well as get the message out about careers in investment management. It has also been a great way for me to meet people within other investment companies in London and share our experiences.
