I enjoy my job because it gives me a fantastic opportunity to be surrounded by highly experienced professionals and to learn about the financial industry as a whole but more specifically about the asset management industry. I am challenged and given the opportunity to make a real impact in the team I joined, furthermore I have been given responsibility for a number of critical tasks. These experiences allow me to develop as an individual.
The most challenging aspect of my job is to consistently deliver on client expectations even at very busy times. Also the transition from school to the workplace can be described as “challenging”. A strong will to learn and adapt to change is needed, however it is also a great opportunity to thrive as you are given much greater freedom and responsibility.
I joined Kames Capital straight after my final year of secondary school at the age of 17. I had subscribed to the vacancies newsletter of Investment20/20 which alerted me to the vacancy at Kames Capital and allowed me to apply to and eventually join the firm.
I plan to go to university next year to study physics with a view to potentially returning to the financial sector. This experience has helped me gain a better understanding of what a career in the asset management industry would be like. I would encourage anyone who has an interest in business and economics to experience the industry before going to university.
My Investment20/20 experience has been enlightening, it has helped me refine my future career aspirations and has taught me skills which will be useful to me throughout my career.
