I work under UK Marketing within Standard Life Aberdeen and I was placed in the Content team. The Content team create investment style blogs and also create, post and manage the social media side of Standard Life UK. This suits me perfectly as there are always new things coming across my desk and I am able to help people from all over our department as it all fits together in some way.
The most challenging thing at the moment is keeping up with the changes going on and also balancing a work/life balance.
I came into this opportunity after working for about a year and a half as a telephone operator at a taxi firm here in Edinburgh. When I left school, I didn’t fancy going straight into more education to study just for the sake of it so, I decided to go straight into full time work. This is a great option for me, as not only are you learning on the job, you are also earning at the same time. Eventually I felt like I needed a change and this opportunity came up though talking to a friend who already worked here. Getting into an opportunity like this was really beneficial for me as it has opened up a lot of new opportunities I wouldn’t have even thought about.
Ideally I would like to stay within the company under marketing but if that doesn’t happen I feel as though the experience will help me with finding a similar role elsewhere and has given me the confidence to go for things that I might not have before.
I would highly recommend this experience as I cannot be more thankful to be given this helpful step up into the financial sector. Overall I would sum it up as an amazing experience that if you get the chance to try then definitely do it.
