I love that there is always something to do and there are a set of tasks that I need to complete every week. This allows me to have a routine and keep up with things that need to be done. I am fortunate to be working for a company as diverse as Jupiter – my team and colleagues are super friendly and helpful!
After sixth form, I wasn’t sure about what I wanted to do but I knew I didn’t want to go to university. Since, I enjoyed maths in school, I thought finance would be a good industry to start my career in. Working in purchase ledger means that I need to communicate with many suppliers as well as different departments within the company and I enjoy solving queries and finding solutions.
For me, the most challenging aspect of my role is definitely managing my tasks and prioritising certain things. I must ensure that all our suppliers are paid on time and make sure that there is nothing outstanding as well as answer queries regularly, both from within the company and externally. Adapting to the office environment was also another challenge coming straight from school, but I’m glad that I made the decision to do an apprenticeship rather than go to university.
In sixth form, I studied BTEC Business and I knew that I didn’t want to go to university, thus I searched for many apprenticeships but only found a few. Investment20/20 was recommended to me by a friend and I found a range of different apprenticeships and traineeships on their website, so I applied for as many as I could. Even though I was rejected by many companies, I was able to build more confidence and developed new skills during each interview which helped me gain a role in finance at Jupiter. The application process was definitely a challenge, but without Investment20/20 providing so many opportunities, it would have been difficult to land a role in finance at such a young age with little experience.
Currently, I am studying AAT Advanced Diploma and I wish to progress on to CIMA once I have finished. In a few years, I hope to become a qualified accountant and gain more knowledge and experience in different areas of the finance department.
My experience with Investment20/20 has definitely been a positive one; they have provided so many opportunities for me which has helped me kick start my career and get ahead of my peers who decided to go to university. The events held by them have allowed me to improve my networking skills and helped me gain the courage to make conversations with people in senior roles and not be afraid to ask questions.
