Why do you enjoy your job?

My job role within the Internal client reporting team, in the Investment Operations department, requires me to check and validate data each day, monthly and quarterly. I also regularly update procedures, manage client instructed cash movements, manually key in internal cash transfers whilst monitoring swift payments and liaising with custodians over the phone or via email. My attention to detail enables me to review these reports thoroughly and as my confidence grows within the team I will be able to resolve any queries identified more independently. I would say the best aspect of my job is meeting with new people who are also interested in the Financial Services Industry within M&G Investments, throughout my studies and the Investment 20/20 events. Also, M&G Investments encourages you to get involved in as many events and socials as possible, which makes the job more enjoyable.

What is the most challenging thing about your job?

The most challenging thing about my job was coming into a work place environment and having no prior knowledge to the Investment management industry. To begin with this was all very overwhelming (and at times still is) but everyone in my team and my training coach are very supportive and are always willing to help me with any questions I have.

How did you get into your job?

Investment20/20 visited my secondary school whilst I was studying my A Levels. After watching their presentation, I went onto their website and viewed all the companies they had contacts with and what job roles they were advertising. M&G Investments looked familiar as someone in my school had got an apprenticeship with them previously, therefore I decided to apply for the Investment Operations role they had available. I never wanted to go to university, the apprenticeship route was something I was always keen to do, because it would provide me with the experience of work life as well as an industry qualification, straight after leaving school.

What are your future aspirations?

I aim to complete industry specific qualifications to help me progress within M&G Investments and the financial services industry as a whole. I hope that I remain within the M&G Investments team for a long time and I would like to move up within the company and settle in a role that suits me best.

How would you sum up your Investment20/20 experience?

Investment20/20 have been very vocal in making sure apprentices get involved in their events, and theses experiences have helped me network with like minded individuals and has given me the opportunity to listen to talks about successful people within the industry.
