I am a part of the internal communications team at Aberdeen Asset Management*. I really like my job because before I started working here I worked for a PR company where I wrote press releases and built relationships with different clients. I found that I really enjoyed the writing aspect of the job and wanted to take the next step in a career in this field. I play in a band and I write most of the songs which is where I first saw that I enjoyed writing creatively.
The most challenging thing about my job has been wrapping my head around the different teams throughout the business but I’ve slowly made progress in getting my knowledge up to speed.
I left school in June 2014 with no real aspirations to further my education in a particular subject. I decided that the best way for me to move my life forward would be to take up an apprenticeship. I’ve had a few in the three years since I left school but nothing really stuck with me until the one at the PR agency. I heard about the job at Aberdeen from a friend and since it was in the internal communications team I applied. This role is a step up from my previous job and has opened a door for me to be in permanent employment which is something I’ve searched for since leaving school.
My aspirations now are to have a permanent position within a company that allows me to progress further. I also wish to keep on developing my skills and to be the best I can be in the role that I am in. I would like to help other people who have taken the same path as me in the transition between school and the workplace because that’s something I struggled with when I started working.
Investment20/20 has been great for me because it has opened the door for me to fulfil my career aspirations of writing in a business capacity and has also let me develop my skills.
