Why do you enjoy your job?

Desktop support is an interesting role as you are required to tackle new challenges daily. If you have a logical thought process and can eliminate potential causes to issues in a methodical manner, then the job can be easy.

What is the most challenging thing about your job?

There are times where you must accommodate users and be exposed to very stressful situations but if you thrive under pressure and are good with people then the role can be enjoyable.

How did you get into your job?

I left sixth form to study business management with economics at the university of Brighton. I switched courses to business management with finance for my second year but left half way through. I then started to work in a Pub as a barman and chef where I learnt most of the skills that benefit me in my current role.

Examples of those skills are:

  • Time management
  • Good communication skills
  • Performing well under pressure

How did I get into my role?

I started on a 6-week internship, my manager then extended my internship by 3 months. I was made aware of the Investment20/20 role internally and now I’m 6 months into the apprenticeship. Within those six months I have been offered a Permanent position with the service desk team and have been promised a permanent position within desktop support at the end of the scheme, provided that a role can be created.

What are your future aspirations?

My ambitions are to secure a permanent position within desktop support at the end of my apprenticeship. And benefit from windows 10 role out which will give me exposure to elements of desktop that may be of use going into other areas of IT.

How would you sum up your Investment20/20 experience?

This apprenticeship scheme has helped me develop my skills which will aid me in securing a permanent position within the investment management industry. I have tried both university and an apprenticeship and even though I gained a lot of skills from university I do believe that the apprenticeship has been far more beneficial for me in securing and developing my career simply because of the exposure to a work environment.
