Marketing Apprentice |
School/College Leaver

Why do you enjoy your job?

I work in marketing, predominantly in the events team, although I do help other parts of the department as and when I have the capacity. I enjoy my role hugely as I never do the same thing each day, particularly in events. My role requires good organisation and communication skills, and I enjoy communicating with people in many different areas of the business, as well as from external companies.

What is the most challenging thing about your job?

One challenge that I faced at the start was learning to adapt to the new environment, as I found the experience quite daunting. At the beginning of my apprenticeship, I felt under pressure to complete my tasks as quickly as possible, and was afraid to take my time, and ask questions. I now realise that this is a far better approach as the end result is of a better quality, and it gives me the chance to fully read, understand and digest the work, as opposed to just rushing to get it done. The team is very supportive and I know that they are always willing to take ten minutes out of their day to help me if there is something I don’t understand.

How did you get into your job?

I joined the Investment20/20 scheme straight from sixth form as a school leaver, after completing my International Baccalaureate. I heard about Investment20/20 in my first year of sixth form, and thought it was a fantastic opportunity for school leavers who were interested in starting a career within the financial services industry, like myself.

What are your future aspirations?

Although I am yet to determine a specific route for myself, I am positive that I would like to continue working within the financial services industry. I would like to gain as much experience and knowledge as possible, so that I can develop my confidence for any future role I take on. For the moment, I am keen to continue working within marketing, particularly events, as I have found it very enjoyable yet challenging over the past six months.

How would you sum up your Investment20/20 experience?

My experience with Investment20/20 has been extremely positive. I would recommend the scheme to any school leavers who are looking to join the industry. Investment20/20 hold regular events that enable you not only to meet and network with other trainees across many different companies, but they are also incredibly informative – I would recommend going to as many events as possible.
