Why do you enjoy your job?
Through my job I have been lucky enough to be a part of both the environments and deployments teams. Technology is constantly changing and it offers so many chances to broaden your knowledge. Computing capability is also an essential component of life and allows us to participate more fully in a rapidly changing world.
What is the most challenging thing about your job?
The most challenging aspect is the attention to detail. In the environments team, we check and maintain the integrity of all environments. In the deployments team the focus is mainly around code and database changes. We therefore use systems that require different technical languages ranging from Java, Python, Unix/Linux to SQL . They may look similar but a few character changes can perform a completely different code which took a while for me to get my head around.
How did you get into your job?
My ICT, Geography and Economics A-Levels gave me a general outline of IT in the asset management industry. To get a more in-depth understanding of the technological world I did work experience at Cisco and was able to see some technology in action. I also did a short tech course to learn different coding language such as, HTML, CSS and PHP. All this helped me learn more about the IT world and I used this experience to apply as an apprentice at M&G Investments.
How would you sum up your Investment20/20 experience?
The Investment20/20 team organises work-related training classes or insight days where informative speakers give apprentices useful extra knowledge and advice. It gives trainees a head start in their career. There are also social events which allow other apprentices/trainees from different firms in London to network and support each other.
