Why do you enjoy your job?

I enjoy my job due to the all-encompassing nature of my team’s role which allows me to ascertain a unique perspective on the business as a whole. In my role I get exposure to the sales, investment and compliance team on a regular basis which has allowed me to gain an insight into the various roles which each business unit performs. This, in turn, has allowed me to develop a good level of knowledge of the business which I can use to assist me as I pursue a career within the industry.

What is the most challenging thing about your job?

The most challenging part of my job was the first few months after I started at the company. This time involved a steep learning curve where I was educated on everything from my team’s role within the business to smaller things such as learning how to use the systems that would be required to fulfil my role effectively.

How did you get into your job?

Originally I had planned to go straight from school to study at university however, once I found out about the Investment 20/20 programme offering olds a year in the Investment Management Industry I jumped at the opportunity.

The recruitment process itself involved various video interviews and psychometric tests culminating in a final assessment centre. The assessment centre included a group activity and one on one interviews along with an informal break which provided the attendees with a unique opportunity to talk with existing members of staff allowing you to assess the culture of the firm.

How would you sum up your Investment20/20 experience?

I cannot fault the Investment 20/20 experience as it is full of exiting opportunities for networking and development. Investment 20/20 is committed to your professional development as evidenced by the array of training opportunities provided by the charity. These range from events aimed to ease the transition from school to the world of work to informal discussions about the asset management industry in general, all of which have direct applications in your day to day job.
