Why do you enjoy your job?

My current role is predominantly a research role. I research prospects for the institutional sales team and build out intelligence profiles and account plans. I enjoy getting involved in the research and constantly learning about the markets in which we operate – it is much more interesting than a data entry/administrative role would be for me.

What is the most challenging thing about your job?

The most challenging part of my job is dealing with incomplete information. Trawling through annual reports, investor presentations, news sources, databases etc. is necessary for building the whole picture when researching a prospect. However, information is often not readily available and different sources can sometimes contradict each other.

How did you get into your job?

As part of my degree I completed an internship at a commercial bank. I was more drawn to the buy-side of the industry due to a more favourable working culture and a greater emphasis on research and long-term returns over deal making and short-term profits. As my work experience was not directly relevant to investment management, the Investment20/20 scheme helped me get a foot in the door.

What are your future aspirations?

I have been offered and have accepted a permanent position on the multi-asset team here at Invesco as a Trainee Investment Analyst on the research side starting in July. My goal is to learn as much as I can in this role and complete CFA levels 1-3. This role could lead me up the ranks to fund manager in the longer term, though I am still finding my feet in the industry and cannot say for certain where I want to be in ten years’ time

How would you sum up your Investment20/20 experience?

An opportunity to get a foot in the door, gain valuable experience and meet the right people.
