I enjoy my job because I get the chance to network with colleagues from every business area and on a global scale too. I have also been given lots of responsibility which has helped me to become more independent and provide a valuable team contribution in various compliance aspects from reviewing trade requests to submitting Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) approvals.
The most challenging aspect would have to be learning and understanding all the financial jargon which is used on a daily basis. Studying for Claritas and attending training sessions has definitely helped increase my knowledge and understanding of the industry.
I graduated from Newcastle University with a degree in Business Management and took a year off to embark on a 5 week volunteering programme in Fiji with a core focus on teaching and sports development. I also worked as a chalet host completing a ski season for 5 months. On my return I began the job search for graduate and permanent roles and happened to come across Investment20/20. Having completed a 10 week summer internship for an investment management firm while at university I applied to both Investec and Schroders for the trainee scheme.
My aim is to continue learning about the industry and challenging myself in a role that is perhaps more investment related within Schroders. I hope to also complete the IMC exam and maybe even the CFA qualifications one day.
It has been a fantastic learning opportunity and I have been extremely impressed with all the training events provided both internally and externally. I have also made a whole new network of friends and colleagues, and feel that Investment20/20 has given me a great start to hopefully a long career in the Investment Industry.
