I have had the pleasure of being assigned to a number of Global regulatory and business transformational projects, to work alongside some extremely talented and experienced senior programme managers. I feel I am suited to this line of work as I am an organised person who likes to motivate and inspire individuals to do their best and collaborate with others elsewhere in the business. No two days are the same and you can face daily challenges that need to be resolved quickly and efficiently, there is also a constant stream of networking which can sometimes be difficult in a complex global business like BNP Paribas, however these are the things that make the job enjoyable and worthwhile.
The most difficult thing I have found working within BNP Paribas is the structure of the business, it is very complex as it is a Global organisation. This means navigating your way through the company can be difficult at times, however the team I work with are all so helpful, if I need advice or pointing in the right direction they are always there to assist me.
I came to this job 2 years after graduating university with a Politics and Sociology degree. I worked all through my university career and once I graduated I was stuck for what I wanted to do next. I took a job at TSB Bank as a personal banker and found I really enjoyed working within the finance sector, however after working for nearly 6 years in customer facing roles I was ready to get a break from being in front of the customer. I was searching for back office roles in finance and came across the Investment20/20 BNP Paribas graduate scheme and applied on a whim not thinking I would get it. I was offered the job and I was so shocked as I had never had experience working within this type of role before. My time at BNP Paribas has given me so much confidence coming from retail jobs knowing nothing about project management and now 6 months later being able to run my own project work-streams. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made as it has given me a jumpstart to my professional career as a successful project manager.
After my 12 months at BNP Paribas is complete I would like to go on to find a role as a Junior Project Manager for another year to gain more experience and then be able to drop the Junior title and become a successful Project Manager and build my career from there.
My Investment20/20 experience has been a great one. It was a huge risk leaving a full time, permanent role to come into this programme, however, I have not regretted it one bit. I have grown and learned so much in my time at BNP Paribas Securities Services and I will go forward taking that knowledge with me throughout my career.
