My role as an Investment Trainee has allowed me to rotate within the High-Yield Corporate Bonds team and Sustainable Equities team. These roles have enabled me to develop complex financial models, forecasts and reports to help my assigned portfolio manager make well-informed investment decisions. As a recent graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Management Economics and master’s degree in Financial Management, I have enjoyed the opportunity my job has provided me to apply the theoretical knowledge gained from lectures in a working environment. Additionally, I have also enjoyed using my analytical skills to develop sophisticated financial models which fund managers have used to make strategic investment decisions.
Working in front office involves several challenges as this is a very high-risk area within asset management. From my experience of working in this area over the past 8 months, I have had to maintain a high level of professionalism with regards to my time management, efficiency and ability to work towards tight deadlines. Moreover, I have been mostly challenged by the fast-paced environment which can often be demanding during the launch of a new fund.
After graduating from my bachelor’s degree, I knew I wanted to work in financial services, and as a result, I decided to complete further study with a master’s degree in financial management. During this time, I researched several fields in the industry and discovered the asset management sector through the investment 20/20 website. I found asset management particularly appealing due to the morally rewarding element of helping people grow their pensions. I then decided to apply for the vacant trainee position at BNP Paribas and successfully secured a role as an Investment Trainee.
I would like to be the founder of a social impact private equity fund by 2030. To achieve this, I will first need to gain more knowledge on investment management through qualifications such as the IMC and CFA. I will also need at least 5 years of experience managing client’s assets in a front office investment role.
