Being a Business Management Apprentice allows me to get involved in a wide variety of aspects of the business as my day to day jobs include operations, finance and IT. I’ve never been completely certain of the path I have wanted to follow so the wide scope of the apprenticeship has allowed me to experience a variety of tasks which range from managing the expense tracking of certain projects to actually being involved in the operational aspects. M&G Investments* really value their employees and the friendly and welcoming culture is just one of the reasons why I enjoy my job so much.
One challenge I faced was getting to grips with all the terminology that the industry uses. Sometimes I would come out of meetings, without even the faintest idea of what just went on! However, my team are always willing to help and take time out of their day to answer and explain any questions I may have (and believe me, there have been plenty).
I finished my A Levels in 2016, where I studied Maths, Psychology and Biology meaning I had no experience of the Investment Industry when I first started in January. Whilst applying for jobs, I worked in pubs part time until I finally got my place at M&G. I actually got to the final round of the Finance Apprenticeship at M&G where I came second, after which they recommended me to apply for my current role. So don’t ever feel disheartened or lose motivation from rejection because new opportunities are always round the corner.
I started my apprenticeship in January and having no previous experience in the financial industry, meant it was a slightly daunting experience! However, I cannot fault the Investment20/20 scheme, where they provide regular events which include listening to speakers from the industry and regular social events which allow you to broaden your network and meet other people on similar schemes to yourself.
I still haven’t got a set career path which I know I want to follow so don’t panic if you’re in the same position! At the moment, I want to complete my IOC and IMC qualifications, broaden my network and gain valuable experience in a wide range of sectors so that any job I do, I can do to the best of my ability.
I have only been on the scheme for three months and already I have such a high opinion of the Investment20/20 experience. They provide so many opportunities allowing me to further my knowledge and develop a range of skills that will be valuable for life. I cannot fault them and would highly recommend their schemes.
