My job role involves working within the events team to organise the Christmas Party, the Service Awards and various board meetings all over the world. Tasks which I regularly carry out include visiting and communicating with venues and hotels, creating and updating documents, attending food tastings and setting up meetings with people from a variety of different departments who get involved with some of our events. I am also doing a Business and Administration course at Bromley College and next year I will go on to do a week’s event course. I feel I am suited to this role because I am extremely organised. I also have a great attention to detail which is exceptionally important in order to avoid critical mistakes on the day of an event. I am also creative and enjoy finding a different way of working in order to solve a problem we may face in the run up to an event. One thing I love about my job is the buzz of excitement (and nerves!!) you get just before and during an event. I love the adrenaline rush you get from seeing all of your hard work turn into something amazing.
The most challenging part of my job is the clients we are providing an event for. Usually their needs are quite complex and at times difficult for us to be able to provide for. We often have last minute changes to our guests’ plans which can change a whole event itinerary with only hours to go before the start. This can be extremely challenging however it is also exciting and keeps us all on our toes.
I came to Fidelity straight from school after completing A-Levels in Business, IT and Media. I also had a part time job as a waitress in a pub which helped me develop my customer skills and therefore put me in a position where I had experience dealing with people, especially challenging customers.
I knew about Fidelity apprenticeships because my brother had completed one in technology a few years before and had now successfully progressed through the company. I had always wanted to have a career in events and so therefore when I found the Event Co-ordination apprentice advertisement online I could not believe my luck! I applied online straight away, had a telephone interview and then had a face to face interview. My interview consisted of delivering a presentation I had been asked to prepare, speaking with the events team themselves and having an HR interview.
In the future I aim to gain my qualifications, complete my apprenticeship and hopefully go on to a full time role within Fidelity. I would like to gain as much knowledge and experience about organising events in order for me to be the best I can be at my job role. I aim to work as hard as I can in order to work my way up into roles with more responsibility.
