I enjoy the fact that the reporting I am responsible for creating is one of the key touch points that we have with our institutional clients. What my team and I create can range from simple trade reports to complex reporting showing anything from contribution data to risk exposures to yield metrics, and I like the analytical challenges that this presents. I also help lead our reporting on-boarding team, where I get to work with clients to ensure that we are providing first class client service from a reporting perspective.
One of things I found most challenging when I started in my current role was the sheer volume of reporting the team has to complete. The role is very deadline driven and even after extensive training I initially found it challenging to complete what I was allocated. This became easier over time and overcoming this challenge really helped me plan ahead and learn about prioritisation.
After completing A-levels I already had an idea of what I wanted to do as a career, and instead of going to university I decided to go straight into the world of work. Following a 6 week internship back in 2013, I was offered a permanent position at J.P.Morgan Asset Management where I have remained ever since.
I believe that the extra-curricular interests I had when I was back in school, including programming and tracking an amateur investment portfolio, helped me decide what I wanted to do in the future and have aided me in my current role.
Since joining J.P.Morgan Asset Management I have complete the IOC (Investment Operations Certificate) and IMC (Investment Management Certificate) qualifications.
I am currently looking to pursue the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) qualification to further develop my knowledge. After that I may look to become more involved with Portfolio Management, although ultimately I just want to pursue a role that will utilise the skills I have learnt in my current role, but also challenge me to continue learning each day.
Investment20/20 is an extremely useful tool for people that know what they want to do in the future, have decided that University is not for them or just want to get experience in the finance industry. The list of firms that are associated with the scheme is extensive and the firms themselves are very prestigious. Personally I think that knowing there are a group of other people that have followed a similar path to me is encouraging.
