My job involves numerous different tasks with varying skill levels. This is what makes my job exciting and interesting as every day I learn something new. In my role I interact with different teams on different projects, this keeps me busy and has increased my network massively.
I would say the most challenging thing about my job is to remember all the different aspects and advice I have learned, and when to use these in different situations. Also, as an apprentice it can be quite difficult to know what to do in a new situation – that’s why asking questions is key!
I started looking for an apprenticeship at 16, however most large finance companies require A-Levels. So after my A Levels I looked again. I found it quite tough to find apprenticeships independently, but through a research provider called QA apprenticeships and Investment20/20 I got interviews at top finance firms and then thankfully landed my apprenticeship at Aberdeen Standard Investments.
I am currently in the sales team at Aberdeen and am very much enjoying it. I hope to get a permanent job in the team after my two years. I am also studying for a Project management degree level qualification alongside my apprenticeship and after the four years’ experience hope to pass my CFA (Chartered Financial Adviser) exam.
Investment20/20 gives you opportunities no one else can: all you have to do it take them with both hands!
