I love the interaction with so many different kinds of people, and this also helps to create variety within my work day as there is always something to do in HR! I enjoy learning new things every day, whether it is about the business or about myself.
I think the most challenging thing about being in HR is being able to balance everyday tasks with queries that come in and are urgent for the employee.
I think you have to be able to prioritise tasks in order to work in HR and make conscious decisions about what is best for the employee.
After sixth form I joined a different firm in a more administrative role. However, I realised that this side of the business wasn’t for me, and that HR might be much better suited as every day is different. I found out about the scheme through a previous student at the same sixth form. I signed up for the HR job alert and saw the Jupiter role a few weeks later.
I would like to complete my CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development) studies within the next couple of years so that I have the HR qualification to match my practical knowledge. I want to experience all of the different aspects of HR to see which route I would like to take in the future.
The experience has been extremely positive so far. The application process was smooth with several stages, allowing you to be seen as an individual. During the scheme, Investment20/20 has organised events that encourage you to network with different companies and see alternative team structures. I think the best events are the Industry Insight events where you hear from senior individuals about their journey into the industry.
