One of the main reasons I enjoy being an apprentice is that I rotate into a new department every four months. This aspect is great as it gives me an understanding of what each department does, and how they link together. It also means that I have got to know a wide range of new people throughout the company and developed many new skills. We are also given lots of training and gain qualifications.
What I find the most challenging is rotating into a new department and starting from the beginning again. However as challenging as this can be, I enjoy it, as I get to meet new people, try new work and understand the business better.
After finishing school I knew I was interested in doing something where I could learn and gain experience. I heard through word of mouth about the Aberdeen apprenticeship and thought it was exactly what I was looking for so I applied. I took part in an assessment day, was successful, and was invited to two weeks’ work experience. After the two weeks in summer and an interview at the end I was fortunate enough to be offered a place on the programme. I happily accepted.
As an apprentice in my second rotation of six, I don’t yet have a set plan. I want to make the most of the apprenticeship programme on offer, before beginning a career in a department I really enjoy.
I want to continue to learn and grow, and the apprenticeship has given me the perfect opportunity to do that.
