I am based in client service. This means that I communicate with the clients and consultants of those who invest in Schroders. I even get the chance to go to client conferences! I am well suited to this role because I can easily chat to new people, which helps when meeting clients. I might not necessarily know about the funds they are invested in, but to hear about their company, especially when they are big clients that I know!
One challenging aspect of my day to day role are the phone calls. Where my team look after 200+ clients it can be difficult to answer the questions while on the spot, but as time goes on it becomes a lot easier.
I came straight from college into this job, which can be quite daunting as to start with you still think you’re in school! The application process was quite involved, but similar to most companies, therefore the experience itself is good. Investment20/20 is a really good scheme to be a part of because they offer support, and connect you with loads of companies who hire trainees on the same scheme. They also put on lots of training days where you meet with everyone and learn about the industry.
I don’t necessarily know where I want to go with my career. Now my foots in the door there’s many routes I can take. At the end of college I was sure I wanted to do law, and even in my interview at Schroders, they assured me that even in the company they can help you move around. So at the end of this year, I might be given the chance to carry on what I’m doing, or I can explore my options, basically, I have no idea where I’m going to be, but that’s the enjoyment of it, to explore the possibilities.
An unexpected journey that goes far too quickly.
